It’s been another busy week here at TapRoot Farms! The fields are full, the harvest crew is hard at work, and we’re continuing to bring in lots of fresh produce for your CSA shares.

We reuse our CSA boxes from week to week, so please bring your empty box back when you pick up your next share. Every box returned helps us keep things moving and cuts down on waste. Thanks for helping us reuse them!

We have added our wool dryer balls, set of 3. Our friends at Legacy Lane in New Brunswick made them, but we hope in the future that TapRoot Fibre will start to make them.

We have also added some luffa veggie scrubbers, Cindy Lou Oulton grows the luffa organically at TapRoot!

Callaloo is a popular and traditional Jamaican dish made from the tender leaves of the callaloo plant, a leafy green similar to spinach or amaranth. It is a staple in Jamaican cuisine and is enjoyed for its rich flavor, versatility, and nutritional value.

The greens are typically sautéed with onions, garlic, tomatoes, sweet peppers, thyme, and Scotch bonnet pepper, then seasoned and cooked until tender. Callaloo is often prepared with saltfish (salted cod), but it can also be made with bacon, smoked herring, fresh seafood, or simply as a vegetarian side dish.

Canada Day Pick-Up Change

A reminder that next week’s Wednesday CSA pick-up has been moved to Thursday, July 2, due to the Canada Day holiday. Your pick-up location and times will remain the same—just one day later than usual.

Maple Syrup Available

We have a limited number of 2 L jugs of Hutchinson’s Maple Syrup still available! They’re $36 per jug and available while supplies last.

The fields are changing quickly! Our summer crops are growing well, and we’re looking forward to more seasonal favourites making their way into your shares over the coming weeks.

Summer is beginning to settle in across the farm, and we’re excited to share another week of fresh, locally grown produce with you. The fields are thriving, the strawberries are producing beautifully, and we’re enjoying the long days that help everything grow.

Strawberries are one of the true highlights of the season. Their harvest window is short, so we hope you’ll enjoy them while they’re at their peak. Whether eaten fresh, added to a salad, or tucked into a dessert, they capture the taste of early summer.

Basil has also made its first appearance in the shares. Its fragrant leaves pair wonderfully with tomatoes, salads, pasta dishes, and homemade pesto.

Storage Tips

• Store strawberries in the refrigerator and enjoy them within a few days for the best flavour.
• Keep basil at room temperature. Basil doesn’t love the cold and can darken in the fridge.
• Remove carrot tops if you won’t be using them right away to help keep the roots crisp and fresh.
• Kale and lettuce mix should be stored in the refrigerator.

Every week brings new growth and new challenges, but seeing the fields fill out and sharing the harvest with our CSA community makes it all worthwhile.
