Sharing a farm update, I didn’t think I was getting one to share this week so I already posted the blog so here is another post about what is going on at the farm!
Our Aquaponic Greenhouse, we are waiting for our fish. Our application for our Aquaculture License has just been sent in for a second time for review, once we receive approval on that we will be able to get our fish! We do have lettuce growing in our aquaponic greenhouse and hopefully it will come to your CSA box soon. This lettuce is not certified organic as of yet, it won’t be until we get our fish because you can’t certify hydroponic lettuce.
The sheep have started to lamb. We are having a little bit of trouble with our lambing this year maybe because of the cold weather. The first two have not been all that successful meaning we have lost them.
We have our seeds ordered and they are starting to arrive. We may start to seed as early as tomorrow, with planting some onions.
We have been really just been packing and washing vegetables and growing pea shoots and sprouts. Yesterday was the first day we did some tractor farm work outside, hauling manure from our neighbors. We get their cow manure that has lots of organic matter straw in there.
We have been going to lots of conferences, Josh and I (Katelyn) went to the Ministers Conference Digital Harvesting, Josh went to Horticulture NS Congress and the Fruit Growers Association.
Patricia won the Gerrit Loo award at the ACORN Conference banquet! She also spoke at this conference about the Procedure Project that Organic Nova Scotia is doing that we are a part of!
