Farm Update

We have had a great week of planting in the warm ish soil. The list is long so this is promising. Beans and corn under bio-degradable plastic, the brand is called BIO360, if you want to google it. Also, in our haygrove high tunnels we have more spinach, radish, green onions, celery, spicy salad mix, beet greens and hakurei turnip. We have in those same tunnels strawberries in bloom, bad news the darn sheep got out and of course the leaves on those beautiful strawberry plants were the best so we had a little damage in there, but not all was lost. The joy of having livestock on the farm, some times they get out …. 🙁 Wednesday we fired up the transplanter and got leeks, cabbage and brussels sprout in the ground. Sooooo with all this planting “the battle of the weeds” has officially started, so if ever you want some Zen quiet weeding time we can definitely help you out!!!! This year we are putting up “old” tunnels (haygrove) that were damaged from previous wind storm, Thanks to Malcom and his handiness of bending and welding metal. This will help us have mitigate the extreme rain we seem to be getting for the past 2-3 years. Most of these tunnels will have tomatoes and peppers in them. Super duper news the cherries are in full bloom …. so here’s hoping we will be sick of spitting out cherry pits and also hoping we can a have a cherry picking event in late July which seems to be be a fun way to spend a summer afternoon. Today it is all hands on deck as we are getting more food ready for the markets this week end, I , Josh , try and get to Halifax forum, Seaport and Noggins on Coburg every Saturday. I hope everyone is enjoying the spring time food the farm can provide with thoughts of all the summer bounty that will soon be on us. Thank you and have a great week!!! FYI …. the carrots are up along with weeds so that is the plan tomorrow. Cheers Josh
