Farm Update from Farmer Josh!
Hello all,
I am hearing the sound of lots of rain falling on the window ledge and I find myself having slight PTSD because of the excessive rain of last season. We had a seriously bad growing year in 2023 that I hope I will never experience again but I am entering this growing season with the attitude it will happen again so we can be resilient as possible. The new season is well under way and basically the new season starts on or about January 1 in my brain. However, we did plant garlic in November 2023 for harvest in July 2024, so technically you could say that the season starts then. The first thing we must do to start the season is decide what the heck will we grow next year. How do we do that??? Well, we look at what we did well for us in terms of a few things, 1. popularity, 2. how did it produce/yield, 3. did we like growing it, 4. of course, profitability. As a CSA and Farmers market farm we grow a huge variety of vegetables so the planning process is enjoyable but long. Once that is done it is on to seed selection, I will fill you in on that one next week. Hope you enjoy the grape tomatoes from my old college buddy Marc at Atlantic Grown Greenhouse in Kensington PEI, he and his team are doing a great job at providing fresh produce year round and organically!
Have a nice weekend!
