Farm Update
It has been a while since we have given a farm update! We are almost getting into full tomato harvest time so heads up lots of tomatoes coming your way. We are assessing our crops, some crops aren’t going to make it because of the heavy rain in June. Some of the crops that are unfortunately not going to make it are organic squash. We did lose our second planting of brussels sprouts but we noticed it and we replanted, and as of yesterday we planted brussels sprouts again, so we are hoping those will be ready the end of October. We replanted some carrots and beets because the weeds took over some of the patch. We are just assessing, replanting and trying to do our best to make sure there is lots of food for everybody to eat into the fall and winter.
One bright light is our potato crop is looking good so far, lots of potatoes and we have a pretty decent crop of carrots. We are going to be heavy into thinning apples, there is a big crop of apples on the tree so every year we have to take some of those apples so we get the size that everybody likes to eat. Garlic harvest is about half way through, we started harvesting garlic quite aggressively as of yesterday so we will harvest and then we will start the curing process. The garlic is looking pretty good.
Lily, Josh and Patricia’s middle child, is headed off to Bishop’s University next week which is very nerve-racking for farmer Josh and Patricia!
Have a nice weekend!
