Farm Update:
Weeding and catching up! We are about a month behind and we all just have so much to do! Josh’s head is swirling by trying to decide what to do next, what is our strategy. Presently we are just trying to weed as much as we can.
We hope everyone enjoyed their first week of shares! Have a nice weekend.

Garlic Scapes
Garlic scapes form out of the top of the garlic plant in early June. Garlic growers remove them so that the plant will put more energy into creating a large bulb. If left on the plant they form small purple bulbils at the tips, which can be planted and will turn into new plants. Garlic scapes are milder and sweeter in flavour than storage garlic. The harvest happens all at once, and so it is only available for a short window in early summer.
Storage Tips
- Store garlic scapes in a bag in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.
Culinary Tips
- Garlic scapes can be chopped up and used just like bulb garlic in any recipe
- Use garlic scapes instead of garlic in Basil Pesto for a milder flavour
- Garlic scapes can be cooked on their own as a side dish– bring the mints!
- Grill them, tossed with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, over direct heat for about two minutes. Flip them once, halfway through, and finish with an extra sprinkle of flaky salt and maybe a bit of lemon juice and zest.
