Week 37 TapRoot Farms CSA Newsletter

Hello from a wintery farm morning!

We are busy getting geared up for a big week next week, and in the farm office all the tasks to get registration open are underway.  This year we have exciting news: Members are able to register first this year, starting on Monday, January 6th, 2014.  You will need to have your current log in information on hand to be able to register.  This means members get first dibs on all shares, woohoo!

If you have your username but not your password, you can reset your password online.  If you need us to retrieve your username, please email either info@taprootfarms.ca or teri@taprootfarms.ca prior to January 6th!

Holiday Schedule:

Just one last reminder about how the shares work over the holidays:

Dec. 16 - 21: Double share week (& meat week)

Dec. 23 - 28: NO DELIVERIES (covered by double week the week prior)

Dec. 30 - Jan 4: Week off, NO DELIVERIES (included in 50 week share purchase as one of the vacation weeks)

Jan 6 - 12: Deliveries resume as usual (meat the following week)

GET YOUR GOOSE!

We have frozen geese from this year's flock available starting at the end of this week.  They are $6.60 per lb and average around 7 - 9 lbs.  They have been raised at the farm with access to the pond all year.

Josh and I visited the pond today and this photo is of the remaining geese- Six Bucks in the front with his gal at the rear, and the male and female chinese breed geese in the middle.

You are able to log in and order one from the add-ons section if you would like one. Supply is very limited, so get your holiday goose now!

Holiday Wishes from Jon and Teri

Next week, the remaining seasonal workers return to Jamaica, and Jon and I also take off Monday for an extended holiday break.  We will be visiting Jon's sisters in Calgary and also making a trip to Manitoba to visit my parents.  A big thanks to the TapRoot team for helping to make this happen!  We are thrilled and getting very excited about the trip as it has been nearly 2 years since we've been home, and Jon has nieces and nephews that have been growing the whole time who we will hardly recognize!

Just wanted to send out our best wishes for you this holiday season, hoping that you are surrounded by great friends and family, and delicious healthy food, too!  Thanks for being a part of our first year at TapRoot, and we are looking forward to sharing many more!

When looking for some recipes today, I noticed that all the Holiday cookies & goodies recipes are up all over the web.  It got me thinking that we should have a recipe drive from you members, so we can share some of the decadent (and hopefully some healthy, too) treats that are your favourites.  I'll go first:

My favourite Christmas treat recipe (and guilty pleasure, as it contains literally nothing ever resembling a vegetable!!) is this:

Peanut Butter Marshmallow Squares (click on link for recipe)

Email yours to me this week (teri@taprootfarms.ca) and I'll share them with all the members.  (We've decided there's bonus points if someone has a cookie recipe using turnip!)
