Week 36 (Dec 7 - 13) TapRoot 2015
Happy Friday from TapRoot Farms!
Dates to know.....Dec 14-19 is the last week of CSA share deliveries before a two week holiday. We will start up again on January 4, 2016.
December 20th we are hosting a members chili and mulled cider afternoon at the farm - 1736 Church Street 3 - 6 PM.
New to the add-on section today are some winter bouquets made by Jill and Valarie and 0.5 lb Spinach. Also there are a few turkeys posted in the add on section.
Tomorrow is the EAC's (ecology action centre) Saturday Lobster sale along with their tree sale at Bloomfield Centre. You can order lobster via TapRoot if you wish - check out the share sign up section on our website. We hope to offer a lobster offering for the valley region too.
Josh had the yard dug up on Thursday putting in the piping for the new wood doctor heating system for the squash shed.
We dug up some kale plants and are hoping they will grow well over the winter in the trays in the newly heated greenhouse (as soon as it gets hooked up to the wood dr) - we are experimenting with this option for all winter long kale.
We were very happy to host Meredith Leigh on the farm earlier this week. She is the author of http://www.ethicalmeatbook.com/. Josh and Nathan attended her sessions on Monday and Tuesday.
On a personal note - Frank fell and broke one of his adult teeth off this week - I am super thankful that we were able to find the broken piece in the trap of the kitchen sink drain at my sisters house. Our dentist who has been seeing me since forever - fixed it:) AND....today is my last day of being 'in my thirties'. Tomorrow I turn 40 years old. I have been smiling and crying all week. Josh is very accepting of all that life offers and appears to have a relationship with time and space and life that I admire. I on the other hand feel like I am running out of time and need to remember to breath as a way to slow me and time down. I really do feel sad to be leaving the 30's - they have been fun and challenging and amazing. So much has happened in these past 10 years and many of you have been right here with me/us/the farm. I am just feeling overwhelmed with the love I feel towards the past ten years and everyone who has shared it with me. Many many thanks. I am looking forward to where things go from here. From what people are telling me, it is going to be great! xoxoxo
Have a lovely week-end!

Recipes from Denise's Test Kitchen - Curated by Justine for one more week :)
This hearty meal with lentils and sausage just works, especially with some parmesan mixed in with the bread crumbs to make a cheesy crisp topping.
The baby beets in this weeks shares can be roasted whole and unpeeled, just give them a good scrub. This beet salad would be just as good with spinach instead of baby lettuce.
Mustard-Shallot Vinaigrette. I love home made salad dressings, they don't even compare to store bought and are so easy. Thy this one with the shallots in your share.
I hope you all have a great weekend, it was beautiful for getting some yard work done, bringing home christmas trees, or anything that brought you outside!
