Week 33 TapRoot Farms CSA Newsletter

Hi folks!

The market last Thursday at Hammonds Plains was great, thanks to all of you who made it out and helped it be great!  Hope to see even more of you out this Thursday between 3:00 - 7:00 PM.

We completed our CanadaGAP Food Safety Certification Audit last Friday.  Thanks to all the team for their continued efforts in doing their part, which made this year's certification a breeze!  (Well, it's never a "breeze", but we are glad it's over anyhow.)

As you may have noticed last week, we have made some changes to the delivery schedule for the winter.  Tuesdays will be shared by Tim C. and a second TapRooter (myself, Justine, and sometimes Josh, Patricia, Jem or Jon, or maybe someone else!), Wednesday home deliveries and Kingston will change from Teri to Jon.  This is exciting to me, as Jon hasn't been on the delivery schedule in the past, so I am hoping he enjoys deliveries as much as I do!  Tim C. is now off on Mondays and so Justine is filling in leading share making on Mondays.  We hope you all enjoy seeing some new faces as much as we do!

Devour Food and Film Fest

This week in Wolfville, there is a great Food & Film festival happening.  On Friday, TapRoot has sponsored a showing of the film "Women With Cows".  As lots of the TapRoot team will be in attendance, we'd love to see you at this event, or really any of the awesome things that are happening.  The program is huge and I'm fairly certain there is something for everyone!

Apprentice Earth - By Chris and Greta

Here's a parting gift from Chris and Greta, going over some of their highlights and learning moments from their apprenticeship at TapRoot Farms.  (I nearly fell off my chair laughing the first time I watched it!):

Thanks Chris and Greta, we miss your daily presence at the farm!

Sustainable Fibre: Starting with Why - By Amy

In last week's blog post I touched on the topic of sustainable apparel, and I wanted to take a few moments to talk more about the 'why' of linen as a farm product at Taproot. Not only is food purchasing a choice about the kinds of farms and rural communities we want to support, but the textiles we use have an impact on the lives of the people that produce them and the environment we leave in their wake.

Fast fashion is a phenomenon that has accelerated over the last 10 years with the overflow of stylish, inexpensive and cheaply made clothing produced by companies like... (CLICK HERE TO READ MORE)

Potluck & Recipes

Thanks to all of you who made it to the city potluck Saturday night at United Memorial Church.... and, what a great space to hold it in! (Thanks, Catherine & Dennis!)  It was a fun night and so great to meet some new faces and see all the little ones who will be the next generation of conscious food consumers!  Unfortunately I forgot to take photos, so if anyone has any they would like to share please email them on to me and I can post them on the blog.  We did however talk about sharing recipes from the night, and so far I have these to share:
