CSA - Week 8
What's in your share this week? - taprootfarms.ca/shares
We had our first TapRoot farm meal together on Friday. Kim and I cooked mini quiches made with eggs, frozen tomatoes, leeks, onions, summer savory, and bacon, a brussels sprout salad made with brussels, kohlrabi, radish, and apple with a apple cider vinaigrette, and roasted potatoes (which we didn't give enough time, so had as a second course).
We are looking forward to next month already!
*Look for your soap samples this week with your CSA pick up's.* More info below.
Josh is getting the seedling greenhouse fired up this week. This greenhouse is powered by the outdoor wood furnace that we had installed last year, which also heats the warehouse. Right now the trays of seeds are being stored in the warehouse so they don't freeze, but will soon be moved out to the warm greenhouse where they will germinate more quickly. We are still waiting for the soil for the tomatoes, which is now suppose to come tomorrow. Tim has been able to get fifty trays of celeriac, twenty trays of parsley (ten flat leaf and ten curly), one tray of fennel, and is now working on number one of twenty green onion trays.
New HFX soup on add on's - Hearty Lentil made with lentils, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, tomato, bacon, chicken stock, and parsley. I don't know how they do it but their soups are so flavorful and filling with such simple ingredients.
Melissa at Noggins wanted me to mentioning that the apple bags they use are usually leftover stock. They have no use for them so they try to use them in their fruit shares – to cut down on ordering more plastic. It is important to know that the apples are Noggins even if the bag is from Mason’s etc. and the variety is the one that we have given you on the list, not necessarily what is on the bag.
Angela, from the Fugly soap company in Hubbards, has made samples of soap for all our members. Look for them along with your CSA shares this week and in our add on section.

We love cabbage too! Tried this recipe last week with the Savoy cabbage, red cabbage, and carrots. So delicious! - from a CSA member.
Asian Slaw with Ginger - Peanut Dressing
Grated Black Radish Salad - the black radish have a kick to them!
Bone-in goat meat is very traditional way to eat lamb and goat meat. The bone adds nutrients and flavour to your meal. It does take some getting used to as there can be some sharp pieces and you almost have to use your hands to get at all the meat. Part of the fun really :) This stew would be great with potatoes, turnip, and carrot added.
Traditional Goat Meat Stew
I just love this picture that Patricia posted of her kids lunches. Cabbage sandwiches!
We've been loving getting all the cabbage recipes in our in box to share with you all. Keep them coming!
Have a great week!
