Our share member wall is filling up, it is so great to see all the new and returning members and their families! Please send in your pictures :)
Good Afternoon New and Experienced CSA Members,
We are excited to be starting a new season on Monday the 4th of April with you.
We have a few details to review with everyone as we embark on a new year together. Please review this with everyone in your family who will be collecting your TapRoot shares:
Please review your location day and times for pickup. You can find this information when you log in or on your invoice that was emailed to you when you signed up. Some locations are new and we may need to adjust the timing of them depending on traffic flow. This week please bare with us we travel to some locations for the first time.
There are deliveries on all holidays.
When you collect your share please do the following:
Check your name off the list.
Check the list to be sure you are collecting what the list says (the boxes will all be labeled for the first few weeks) - if it is incorrect please let us know at the office firstname.lastname@example.org
Check inside the share box to ensure you are getting the correct share.
Frozen items (meat shares, fruit and vegetables) will be in coolers. When picking up your Meat and Full Monty Meat shares ensure you are picking up the correct one. They will have little white labels inside the bag.
Some locations have volunteers to help things run smoothly, some have a TapRoot staff members, some are unattended. Please check and double check to ensure you have the correct shares - even if someone passes it to you, please double check.
If you miss your share you are able to pick it up at our farm at 451 Canard street (between 8-5) until the next Tuesday. On Wednesday morning all left over shares are donated to the Canning and Kentville foodbanks. This is the case for all locations except Hawthorn, St. Peters Church, St. Marks Church, Seaport Farmers Market, Mosaic Market, and the YWCA in Spryfield. At these locations the left over shares are donated directly to various food programs and shelters at the end of the pick-up time.
If you bring payments to your pickup to give to Ed or Jem (Ed and Jem deliver the veggies) please ensure that it is in an envelop with your name on it and what it is for. This is very important for all of us!
A gentle reminder that if you haven't made a payment yet, to please do so before next week.
By Friday evening we have posted on the webpage, under shares, what you can expect in the share for the week ahead. On occasion we are late posting this, but it is our intention to have it completed by Friday early evening.
Emails - it is really important for us that you take a minute to review the emails you get from us each week. If you stop getting them, email us to let us know. You can expect to get approximately 38 emails from us throughout the year together. In some cases you may get more if there is information specific to your share or pickup location that we need to communicate to you.
Facebook - if you are on FaceBook, you may wish to like the TapRoot page as we often put updates, pictures, recipes, preserving ideas, etc there as well. You are also invited to Like Patricia's and Josh's pages as they too post lots of farm life pictures. Josh's especially has fun farm posts.
Welcome to the farm where we will share this growing season together - the ups, the downs, the excitement, the challenges, the bounty and the scarcity. The farm is open to you at any time. Anytime you are in the area, feel free to swing in, go for a walk around the ponds, check in the greenhouse, or watch the pigs, chickens, ducks and goats graze around the fields. The two farm locations are 1736 Church Street and 451 Canard Street. Check out the events section of the website for organized events such as Jamaican Jerk Pig Roasts, TapRoot Farm Equipment Day, harvest and weeding days, garlic harvest and more! Check out our webpage for more details. We hope to see you on the farm.
Our motto is "from our hands to your hands" and we mean it. Here at the farm there are people who are working hard each day to bring you food. We deeply value people and the role they play in our food production. In joining the TapRoot CSA you too are sharing in this value of creating meaningful employment here. That is just one of the values that we, you and us, now share.
Happy April. Happy CSA start. Happy eating.
See you soon!
on behalf of Patricia & Josh and the whole TapRoot team.
